Book Reveiw

Screenshot 2016-10-14 at 2.38.59 PM.png
Title: dinosaur rescue
Author:  Kyle Mewburn and donovan Bixley
Illustrator: donovan
Storyline: Arg is a smart young boy but a big brain mean big trouble. Arg is trying to defeat the world's biggest meat eating dinosaur the spinosaurus.

What I like best: was the drawing because it look like arg is looking left and right.
What I didn't like: is how arg dad stepped on poop and lick the poo off his foot but still a good story.
Favourite character and why: arg dad because he;s strong and he own a tribe.
Would I  recommend this book: to people that love to read about dinosaur and like it when they have funny words.

Olympic Artwork

This is my olympic artwork.  Behind the picture of me you can see my tessellation.  A Tessellation is a repeating that doesn't overlap.  I measured up a triangle sides that were  3.8 cm to make a hexagon.   I used pastel to colour in my tessellation.

In my art work I have to write the 3 value because they are respect, excellence and friendship. We had to write similes and metaphor, similes is a sences with the word like or as for example I I’m as strong as a warrior rowing toward the finish line.  A Metaphor is a figure of speech].  The person I choose was a rower and also he looks strong like Kaleb because we had the same one and we both laugh.

Here’s a challenge for you can you see the triangle in the hexagon.

Hong Kong STEM Challenge

Hong Kong STEM Challenge

Materials
6 x long sticks
1 x  wooden square
2 x pipe cleaners
2 x straws
1 x 1m ruler

Challenge #1 - Build a structure with a cube as the base:
IMG_2064.JPG
Challenge one was hard because we had to put one block as our base on the bottom. It always fell down but next time we will but light object.

Challenge #2 - Build the tallest structure that you can and your base can be any size:
IMG_2114.JPG
Challenge 2 was hard because the more it went up it will always collapse.
Challenge #3 -  Build a structure with something that balances off the side of it:IMG_2138.JPG
It was hard because the higher it goes it wobbles a little and because me, Darnell and Javahn we were all working on the same thing once and we didnt work on talking to each other

Moment In Time Week 7

Today our teacher asked us to write a ‘Moment In Time’ piece using a picture of a boy in the water.  We planned as a class to make sure we had the 5 W’s and the 6 Senses.

Before we began our writing in small groups we discussed the importance of using descriptive writing, using similes and metaphors where appropriate, using dialogue and have done our best to make sure our punctuation is correct.  Some of us have even used ‘Show Don’t Tell’ in our writing to provide our reader with more of an experience.

Our teacher gave us 10 minutes for each paragraph and then 10 minutes for editing at the end.  We had so much fun working together!

If you have a moment, we would love you to comment on our writing.

Boy Overboard!

Jack was water skiing when he saw a group of sharks swimming towards him.  Jack was so frightened that he let go of the rope and fell on his back slap Jack started to drown.  The closer the sharks got to Jack the more frightened Jack became.  He could taste the sea water dripping from his mouth. “HELP! HELP!”

Jack saw the sharks swimming closer and closer “HELP! HELP! SOMEBODY HELP!” Jack screamed.  The sharks finally surrounded Jack when he felt like his heart was going to jump out of his chest. One of the sharks lunged forward and tried to bite Jack but he was too fast for the shark and he just dodged in time.  Then the next shark then the next and so on.

The final shark managed to bite Jacks leg “AHHH” screamed Jack as the blood was oozing out of his leg like a tree with tree sap sliding down the tree trunk.  But Jack didn’t only scream because of the blood he also screamed because the sea salt got sucked into his leg like a vacuum.  It was only Jack and the sharks alone in the salty sea water.  Jack knew this was the end but was it?….

Written by Philip, Eraia and Javahn.

Eraia
What I did well was putting interesting words

Javahn:
What I did well was sharing my idea and sharing my knowledgeknowledge.

Philip:
I think I put in some descriptive words to make it interesting for the reader.

Tessellation

A pattern made of identical shapes:
• the shapes must fit together without any gaps
• the shapes should not overlap

Example: This tessellation is made with squares and octagons.

Matariki Reflection

Matariki is a time for reflection.  Yesterday with whaea Tony we took the time to reflect on our year and set a new goal.  here is the goal I set : to be above standard.

File_000.jpeg
Screenshot 2016-07-01 at 11.53.49 AM.png

We made a matariki star.  We used our algebraic thinking.  We had a pattern to follow:

1,2 and down
1 up

We repeated this pattern until we got the sun.

Matariki Celebration

We had to go out of school and get some toetoe but first we had to do a karakia then cut the toetoe then bring them back to class for our Manu Tukutuku.

The reason we made Manu Tukutuku was to celebrate Matariki and every class have made something.  This is how we celebrate matariki by having a feast,  storytelling and especially doing kapa haka and powhiri matariki is also about the seven star but they were seven sister.

We had to use our math strategy  to make our Manu Tukutuku we had to measure the toetoe then split the toetoe into three equal parts.

These are the materials we use for our Manu Tukutuku.   colour wool, Toetoe, Raupō / flax and black paper .

My buddy Memphis help me make the Manu Tukutuku but we had to use tikanga to  finish the Manu Tukutuku Tikanga mean why we do what we do.

We had to measure the toetoe then we had to do a video about how we put the toetoe in three equal part.

I was away when this photo was taken.  Memphis was my buddy, so here is a picture of our kite.

NZ opera

Jaxs Fish ‘N’ chips

Purpose:  Thank you note

Dear Jax

Thank you for coming to Rangikura school to share your opera show.

My favourite part was when the salesman was dancing and and when he pulled a face.  I really liked it when Nemo and Adina were kissing at the end.  The singers were really good and loud.

I really want to see another show next time.

Yours sincerely.
